In my case, I noticed that fsck was going through an error/repair/recheck loop continuously, and not fixing the problem. As this is a personal computer, my account is the Administrator account. Disk Identifier is clearly at the top. Disk Utility also tells me that the disk is read-only when I do a Get Info.
