If you are enabling this feature by checking this box, select one of the three settings on how you want to be notified for updates. Next thing I knew I was getting alerts that my autoupdate was off, I tried to turn it on but was directed to system properties and autoupdate. God Bless. wups2.dll 10. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/916261

I've followed there directions and have gone to the "Control Panel" then to "Automatic Updates". We would recommend selecting the second option, Download the updates automatically and notify me when they are ready to be installed. Sorted out windows auto update in seconds.

Unable to open LEGACY_wuauserv\0000 registry key. I started getting alerts that my autoupdate was off, I tried to turn it on but was directed to control panel for autoupdate where the autoupdate was already selected. when i click start it comes up with an error that says Could not start automatic update service on local computer. This should solve the problem.

It just changed it back to 1 on a reboot. I may continue to play around a bit with entries in these places in the registry in the hope of finding a solution.
