Makes no difference. Weirder: If I choose Huffyuv (a lossless codec) I can convert to AVI ok, but if I then load the Huffyuv AVI into VDUB and try and compress to Xvid, the I do use the same Virtualdub.jobs file for 98 and NT.

That said, if you have a long production you want to globally deshake, it may take a lot of time in AE. Much as I'm a big fan of VirtualDub, though, this sounds increasingly like a job for After Effects.
