Option 2 fixed the Yahoo issue and I was able to send a message through Yahoo and it worked. i thought about this I've spent about 4 hours on the phone to Apple Support and the same amount of time on the phone to support where my email is hosted and I'm getting nowhere. Man, I was tired of that. This is just for the rare case people choose to use gmail anyway.

Reply Nilbud 4 months ago Use 587 for SMTP outgoing or (less secure) use SSL on 465. It's terrible that this isn't set by default... We tried ports 587, 465, SSL on and off.. 25 with no authentication.. 25 worked for about an hour, hence my ticket got closed.
Shame I had to go through all that to solve the problem. Open Window -> Connection Doctor 3. Check your Incoming Server setting to make sure it says imap.gmail.comand not pop.gmail.com. Thanks.
