I'd wipe it but I don't have a cd drive to reinstall. I use Fedora 16, and checked /etc/permissions.local file, but there was not. Last edited by Toz; August 9th, 2012 at 04:03 PM. OP messed up xorg.conf and assumed that log file editing will fix the problem. Also, each time I would try to issue a command using sudo, it would return some error about seteuid (I can't rememer exactly what it said).
If so either use a display manager (strongly recommended) or adjust /etc/permissions.local From 11.4 release notes: The setuid bit on /usr/bin/Xorg is needed for starting X as an unprivileged user, e.g., http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/other-linux-distributions/84077-cant-modifiy-xorg-log.html You are likely to be ignored, or written off as a loser, if you: * post your question to a forum where it's off topic * post a very elementary question I will follow your other instruction and trim Xorg further.Yes. changing permissions or creation of log file is not going to fix the Problem.
I suspect it has something to do with the seteuid error, but I don't know what to do about it. check my blog I thought I was going to have to reinstall, but your advice fixed my problem 11/27/2006 05:31:00 AM Keith Roberts said... The error was 1249. Are you new to LinuxQuestions.org?

You need to describe everything if you want to solve this problem. so i was just using startx on root cause i didn't have time to figure out it out. That command didn't work.
