Reboot. I had to unplug the phone again, end task on iTunes and start it back up. Notify me of new posts by email. A computer reboot was required for the change to take effect.

Again I would recommend taking the computer and the Touch to the Apple Store if it is still under warranty and even if it is not you might try taking it I will definitely be trying this if I get caught in the sam scenario again.
